What is the difference between self mutilation, self harm, or self injury?!

Question:

What is the difference between self mutilation, self harm, or self injury?

Answers:

Self-mutilation typically refers to an act that someone does to themselves to cause physical injury to their body (cutting/ burning/ pinching/ etc.)

Self-harm has a much more broad meaning. This usually refers to someone that may be putting themselves at risk. This can happen by situations they place themselves in/ choices they are making/ possibly substance use (but not usually). Abusive relationships is a good example.

Self-injury is going to be VERY similar to self-harm. It would again be a little more broad however, and most likely referring to an actual injury than just harm. Perhaps it would be someone that intentionally through themselves over a railing and broke their arm.
