Dear josh......I'm sure you can understand their trepidation. I can also understand your opinion that you function at a higher level without medication. Psychotropic meds often have side effects that are unpleasant. Generally they abate after a period of time and once a therapeutic level has been reached. You need to evaluate yourself and answer one question? Has my anger abated and am I in better control of my emotions? If there is any doubt about this then you need to understand the importance of medication to control your violent outbursts. Brain chemistry is the same as organic chemistry and, if you had diabetes and refused to take insulin your parents would probably refuse to let you attend the wedding, in fear that you would be endangering your own health. Please don't rule out medications. Sometimes it is necessary to change meds or adjust dosages. If your medication had side effects that were bothersome to you then you need to tell this to your therapist. I don't think anyone really likes to have to be dependent on medication but you need to put this into perspective. If you had heart disease and your life depended on medication you probably wouldn't hesitate to be compliant. Psychological issues have a stigma attached to them and all of us, who are faced with these types of diagnoses are often reluctant to take meds. We convince ourselves that we don't need them and can "beat" the problem on our own. Please talk to your therapist and evaluate what is the best regimine for you to alleviate your uncontrolled anger. Psychiatric illnesses are insidious and can not be treated by ignoring them and hoping that they will go away. As I said, if you are bothered by side effects, it is crucial that you tell your doctor. He/she has no way of knowing unless you communicate with them. best wishes to you....
