D'you think telling will make it any better?!

Question:

D'you think telling will make it any better?

My brother has Asperger's. He's got it really mildly, so he's only a little strange, (95% normal, 5% not) but its enough that people are constantly picking on him. Like they'll go and find him and tourture him. He ignores them sometimes, and other times tells them to go away. He knows the difference between people actually being nice and people making fun of him (like when people ask him out). Oh yeah he's 11. So do you think telling people why he's strange would make them stop? Or would they call him "sped" and "retarted" (like more than they already do....) a lot? Honestly, what do you think? Because it's abosolutely horrible how much teasing he has to endure. Like it got so bad my MOM cussed out two girls who were harrassing him, and she's usually pretty calm (at least in public.) Is there anything that can make it better? please please please please help!!!

Hi there,
I am a mom with a child on the autistic spectrum. The first thing I would do is to be his sister and protect him as much as you can from getting picked on. Yes, people are very cruel at times especially kids, and they are mean. I think your mom has the right idea! get mad at them! Do not put up with anyone doing that to your brother! He is family, no matter what. Nobody is perfect and that is the truth. It is out of ignorance that they act like that towards your brother. Your brother is being victimized and that is not right.
These kids are vulnerable to being picked on all the time just because they are a little different. I do not think you have to say anything to anybody about your brother.... He is who he is, and he deserves respect like anyone else does.
Please be a good sister to him and do not take anybodies BS , regarding your brother's disability. Tell them he is disabled and to leave him alone!
That is what I would do. If you tell them he is strange it is just feeding into it and making him stand out more. Protect him, and be supportive of your brother.
