If someone is suicidal, at home, in their own apartment, and calls their therapi!

Question:

If someone is suicidal, at home, in their own apartment, and calls their therapist ....?

If th therapist calls cops and 51/50s the patient for a 72 hour lock-down in a psych ward because she believes the patient is in danger of hurting themselves, can the police legally enter that person's home to arrest them and take them to a psych ward or can the patient refuse to go?

This is just a hypothetical question to satisfy my curiosity. I am a writer.
Not a real life situation!
Thanks!

Answers:

A 5150 team will talk to the person to evaluate whether he or she is truly a danger to self or others. If the person can manage their feelings and really won't act them out, then the police will leave them alone. Most important thing here is to be honest with the level of danger, and accept help if it's really needed.
