Is a child who starts off with mood swings and attitude likely to stay that way !

Question:

Is a child who starts off with mood swings and attitude likely to stay that way no matter what?

My sis did and my only daughter seems to be a lot like she is. Cries over a pair of shorts, for instance. Runs off to her room, slams her door. Knows we have somewhere to be and that she shouldn't have dug into the "giveaway" stuff in the first place.

Silly.

My sis is also an honors student, an athlete, very intelligent, and has a bad case of PMDD and PCOS.

My daughter is only six, but already has been acting the way I remember my sis acting when she was little.

Discipline makes it worse. She is the sort we would spend all day on one point when she is in a fit.

She knows when she's wrong but just wants the fight, I suppose. Agree with that responder about mental illnesses, by the way.

Answers:

My daughter is the same way - very much like my wife's sister. So I guess it's genetic. It drives me nuts. I always thought she'd grow out of it - has been this way since a baby and now she's 12. She's not a spoiled brat kind of thing at all - just totally wacked out moods. I think I'm going to try taking her to a therapist - at least maybe they could uncover something I haven't tried yet.
