Anxiety and OCD Question...?!

Question:

Anxiety and OCD Question...?

I have suffered from anxiety for 5-6 years. I am 24. I spoke to my doctor a few years back & she gave me medication, I don't/didn't want to go that route. I talked with a therapist a few times, just wasn't the right one. A few years back I couldn't go far or I wouldn't go places without my mom. I develpoed OCD over these past few years sometimes I can control it & sometimes I can't. Sometimes my close family can see the OCD. I have gotten alot better with my anxiety & I am able to go places & drive to places alone now. I can't seem to get rid of the OCD. Today my family had gone on vacation & my boyfriend was working all day. So I was alone. I was preparing dinner for a BBQ tonite when my mind/anxiety was like what if I get hurt killing thoughts because of the anxiety/OCD I suffer from. Then I became more anxious & kept thinking about what if these thoughts don't go away or what if it comsumes me & I always think this way or worse. Does anyone have any suggestions on what to do to help

I don't want to do the medication. Has anyone gotten better from yoga or accupunture or other therapy? I am going to call my doctor on Monday and set up an appointment with a therapist. Any help will be great. I don't want those bad thoughts to come back or consume me. I am a normal young succesful young lady and these thoughts/actions just aren't for me. Serious answers only.

Answers:

I agree with you on not taking medication. My mom has the exact same thing you do, and she went to the doctor, and the doctor put her on some medication, which did not work at all. She ended up going to bed at five every night, and was always confused. Her personality changed completely, and she would wake me up at five in the morning thinking it was time to go to school, when it's summer. She stopped taking it yesterday, because the side effects got really bad. Anyways, I would say talk to a therapist. My mom has done that before and it really seemed to help a lot more than taking any medication. Also, i'm sure yoga could help too. Good luck!
