Aware or Not of a mental/physical disease?!
Question:
Aware or Not of a mental/physical disease?
If you had a mental and physical debilitating disease of alzheimer's would you prefer to be mentally aware of it, knowing you're wearing people out and being constantly confused, scared, tired, frustrated etc? or would you rather prefer to not have a clue about your mental state and be zombie like? still with confusion but less able?
My father has alzheimers and has recently came off the main drug that prevents the disease getting worse, when he was on it, he didn't have a clue what was wrong, he was less active and was deteriorating physically much quicker, he didn't want to do anything making his mind die faster, now hes more angry and able but the process of the disease is much faster.
In my opinion from seeing it from my eyes, i wouldn't want to be around if i got to be like that, if you ever got like that would you want to know? or just get looked after and become just a body with no mental state?
Answers:
Working with aged people changes your opinion on this I believe, the quicker the deterioration the better and not to know when it happened even better. There is nothing more debilitating than seeing yourself physically unable to do the most mundane tasks and being cared for as if you were a baby.
