Child's therapist recommends Medication?!

Child's therapist recommends Medication?

Today, my 5 year old son's therapist recommended that we see a psychiatrist for possible medication treatment for his depression/anxiety.

Does anyone know what types of medications there are for children (liquid, chewables, etc.)? I would like to do some research before trying them on him.

I do not think there are problems at daycare. He has not started Kindergarten yet (will start in the fall). His borther is a big trigger for him. His brother is 6 and I am a divorced single mom, so they are ALWAYS together. They are with me all the time (unless at daycare). Their dad signed his rights over in 2003, so they do not know him or see him or anything. So I agree that my son has some major issues and I do not question the fact that he probably needs medications, I am just looking for names of meds to see if anyone recommends or does not recommend certain medications. I started my son at age 7 for the same reasons. I researched an EXPERIENCED doctor for this age group. Also requested meds that had a long term study rather than the fad ones out there. I wanted to know the meds before I gave it to him and did my own research as to which ones my doctor suggested. He came up with a list I went home and studied on the net and the next week I spoke to him about what I thought. He was very receptive! Seven years later I cant say how it has changed our lives! The more you learn, the more you know your childs reactions, your doctor will know what kind of changes that need to be made.( Like lowering the dose!!!) My son is thriving! I love my doctor and our communication level that we have!!!
