Your thoughts?!

Question:

Your thoughts?

this is kind of a weird question, i guess, but i would like thoughts on it.

my parents own a LOT of woodland. when i was little, my brother and sister and i used to explore a lot. one day we found this little cabin and played in it for a while. there was a stack of firewood in front of it and we brought it back to my dad.

i think i was around 8 at the time, which would have made my sister 5 and my brother 15.

anyway, my brother swears up and down this never happened. my dad remembers us brining him firewood, but says he doesn't remember where we got it.

my sister and i however both remember this very vividly. we've looked for the cabin many times over the past few years but have never been able to find it (though that may be because it's just a lot of land to look through).

this is something that i've always wondered about. how is it that my sis and i remember this so vividly (we can both describe the cabin exactly the same without consulting each other first), but my dad and brother don't remember it at all?

like it seriously drives me crazy because i KNOW it happened, but my dad and brother say it didn't.

like is it possible that my sister and i made it up when we were little and just imagined it so much that we thought it was real? and if so, why wouldn't we remember making it up?

i know this is a weird and long question, but i'm honestly looking for other people's thoughts on this, since it's something i've wondered about for like, 12 years now and never been able to figure out.

Answers:

That kind of stuff happens in my family all the time, where one person doesn't remember something and someone else does.

It's all about perception and the importance that we lay on the event at the time. To you and your sister, little kids, it was special to find the cabin and get the wood. To your older brother, who had seen all kinds of houses and possibly other cabins, it wasn't as important. To your Dad, who never even went to the cabin, it was just an event of the kids bringing wood.

You were kids, you attached a greater importance to the events, you remember.
