"Choose not to use drugs or choose to use them responsibly. Choose to take care of and support others in their choices, but ultimately, if some guy really wants to start smoking crack or commit suicide, there is nothing anyone can do to stop him." We are not talking about crack we are talking the so called psychiatric medications NAMI is pushing, they have to stop it, use them responsibly? Please stop suggesting that psychiatric medication is the equivalent of drug abuse, Superkitten. You can change your screen name, but I can recognize your nonsense all the same.

It's no revelation on your part that psychiatric medications are overprescribed in many instances and that the pharmaceutical industry is big business and pushes their product, often without full disclosure of the risks, but that does not justify your opinions that they are unnecessary and harmful. Further, medication is rarely forced upon people as you claim with rare exceptions like Kendra's Law where AOL treatment is mandated in order to protect society while still preserving the rights of the mentally ill to the LRA form of care.

I have seen the tremendous improvement that medication, when properly prescribed, can make in a person's overall functioning and quality of life. You seem to completely disregard this fact and you invalidate the pain and suffering of so many mental health consumers and their own experience of improved functioning that results from proper medication with your polarized and inflammatory opinions.

Disguising your screen name does not disguise your misguided and damaging agenda except perhaps for those new to Yahoo Answers. If you want to actually help people, as your blogs and previous posts claim, try developing a balanced perspective on the issue of medication and mental illness and attack the pharmaceutical companies who withhold relevant information from the FDA and the public instead of espousing bigoted attitudes that claim mental illness does not exist as it flies in the face of both common sense and the legitimate experience of many sufferers and practitioners who have genuine knowledge about the subject.
