How do you deal with being ugly as a girl?!

Question:

How do you deal with being ugly as a girl?

i try the best i can. i am nice and have friends and have dated, but hate the depression i always slip into from being ugly. it's the easiest thing to make fun of someone's looks and the last form of social prejudice allowed. i know everyone says there is something beautiful about everyone and good people know that, but the public does not think that way. no matter how nice and successful certain women are, they are reudced to a punchline about being unattractive. yes, women are allowed to go to the moon and be presidents but it all comes down to attractiveness, doesnt it? i do not have a pretty face. i know that and i have had to work really hard in all areas of my life to compensate. it makes me miserable and makes me think that there is no point to anything if all anybody thinks about is the outside. maybe i am too sensitive about all of this, but being an ugly girl in your 20s sucks.

Answers:

I'm not going to try to placate you and say of course you're beautiful, because plenty of people aren't. As you've said, people can be mean, so speaking of inner beauty won't help because it won't shut them up. So I'm going to tell you to play your strengths. Pick a few features you like (your butt, your eyes, cute ears, whatever) and use them for all they're worth. If you love your eyes, get some great eye makeup and maybe even get professional help learning to apply it. Your butt? Spend the extra money for those just right jeans. Draw attention away from what you don't like (lips? Don't wear bright lipstick) and focus it on what you do. Rather than feeling like you are controlled by other people's judgements, take control of the situation. And I know some people won't like this advice, but if changing one or two things would change the whole picture, cosmetic surgery is an option. Just make sure you're doing it for you and not just to shut people up. Good luck!
