Addicted to Pain?...?!

Question:

Addicted to Pain?...?

Hey evryone, I'm just wondering is it abnormal to become so used to being angry and/or sad that feeling those emotions actually make you happy, while positive emotions make you angry? It seems like I'm so used to the negative emotions, that I've confused the negative emotions with being happy. I actually kind of distrust being too happy, because deep down I don't think I SHOULD be happy, because of such a DEPRIVED life. I don't think I should be content with such a lonely existence. Is there any suggestions on what I should do if this is a problem?

Answers:

Yeah, I do have a suggestion based on experience. See a psychiatrist and a psychologist both. A psychiatrist can give you medication which can help to influence your thinking. And a psychologist can help you with your symptoms by showing you how to change the way you feel by changing the way you think. I have to compliment you, though. You realize that you have a problem and you're willing to do something about it.

If I may be so bold, your problem lies in your mindset as does the solution. You yourself said that you don't think you should be happy because you have such a deprived life. By thinking that way, you're your own worst enemy. So start making a gratitude list that can start out really basic. Are you a coffee drinker? If so, do you have coffee to drink? If you do, start out the gratitude list by saying, "I am grateful that I have plenty of coffee to drink." You start out your list in that way and start from the general to the specific. What you'll find is that two thoughts cannot occupy the same space at the same time. And in that way, you can learn to be your best friend rather than your own worst enemy.
