If I start a rehab in New York, would I mess up the progress if I relocate to an!

Question:

If I start a rehab in New York, would I mess up the progress if I relocate to another state?

Because I want to move to the south (Atlanta). I'm trying to make the move by the end of this year or the first quarter of next year. However, I know I need to get some help for an addiction and I will be getting this help as soon as this and next week. Once I start getting help I know it's going to be a therapeutic process I'm going to have to get involved in.

This makes me think about my plans to relocate. So if I begin the therapeutic process to stop my addiction now & relocate within a few months, will that mess up my progress or stop it? Or should I stay right here (where I dont really want to be) until my therapy is completed (which therapy is ongoing for years in alot of cases). Would it be ok to continue the therapy for addiction in another state?

Answers:

According to NA & AA once you begin getting help you should make no drastic changes in your life for possibly one to two years. How ever, if things aren't working for you now then perhaps you should speed up the move. All I can tell you at this point with out knowing more about you is that if your addiction is severe you are gonna be one fragile person for at least several months. Where ever you are get a good support group (AA & NA are in almost every city) and take it one day at a time. GOOD LUCK.:)
