Drinking on mood stabilizers???!

Question:

Drinking on mood stabilizers???

I am taking smallest dosage of Lithium, Lamictal and 1.5mg of Xanax everyday for my mood swing/depression/anxiety. I tappered of completly from Lexapro and I do not take it since 2 weeks. 2 weeks ago I went for vacation with group of my frends to Mexico. I had some alcohol over there everyday...I know my mistake, but I wanted to be like ewerybody else. It hurts when you young and limited to have fun. It has been a week since I came back and i feel like crap. My head and neck hurts, I feel dizzy all the time, no apetite, blurry vision, foggy, depressed, anxiety attacks, lack of concentracion, disociacion, tiredness, no motivation. I blame myself for drinking. Is that the drinking or Lexapro withdrawal??? Or some othrer deseise i got on vacation? If drinking, will I get back to normal or it could be permanent an I will feel that forever???? I am going back on Lex 5mg a day today and wait for my doc comming back from vacation. This is so hard.Thank You.

Answers:

Did the symptoms start immediately after drinking or did it take a few days for the symptoms to start? If they started immediately after drinking, then the alcohol would likely be to blame. However (I'm not a doctor...just speaking from personal experience here) I'm thinking that it may be a combination of all the meds you're taking, plus being off the Lexapro. You're taking quite a combination of strong meds, even if they are at low doses. The things like the dizziness, blurry vision, etc, I'm thinking are side effects. The other symptoms you mentioned (no appetite, foggy, depressed, anxiety, tiredness, lack of motivation and concentration) sound more like symptoms of depression, which makes me think you should probably get back on an antidepressant. Most definitely talk to a doctor. I wouldn't start back on the Lexapro on your own without a doctor's guidance though, since you're taking so many other meds. I know you said your doc is on vacation, but call his or her office, I'm sure he/she has somebody covering for them or somebody is on call that can give you the guidance you need. Hope this helps.
