What causes the chemical imbalance of depression?!

Question:

What causes the chemical imbalance of depression?

Is it something that you are born with, or is it something that is actually developed over time, through the inability to deal with negative situations in one’s life, and the reoccurance of these emotions for long periods of time?

Answers:

Personally I believe that the chemical imbalance theory of depression is a myth that has been accepted by many as the reason for depression.

Depressed people may well have a 'chemical imbalance' in their brains but I believe that if this exists it is a symptom of the depression and not the cause of it.
