Can my shrink help me hook up with gov. social worker? i am 65, sick and bankrupt.?

i am bipolar, irritable, anger issues, and need third party to talk. i cannot tolerate pills, and am not too keen on doctors, social workers or much of anybody. in sept. will only have soc sec. ran out of luck. ex journalist. ideas?

I believe you doctor has the power to certify you to a particular status, to which you will have to surrender a certain amount of freedom to take care of yourself to the state. Being 65, you can qualify with HUD to reside in a senior residential center, which isn't like a nursing home, HUD subsidizes your rent, where you may not have to pay anything. That way, you may still have the freedom of having your own apartment, and to be free to come and go as you please. But somehow, you need to find a way to hold on to your composure. If your behavior is too out of whack. they may make you a ward of the state, and you'll be ordered to a nursing home. So talk to your shrink and find out what he can do, but I'm sure he has an obligation to bring in the State, if need be. I had to help my mother get senior HUD housing at 70, and got her in a nice HUD assisted apt. in Jacksonville Beach FL, overlooking the ocean. Good luck my friend.
