Should i get help?!

Question:

Should i get help?

Hey. Just want to know if you think i should get help here. Im a 3rd year student in college and im currently on work experience. Ive been here for a few moths now and i find myself unable to do any work. I spend all day floating around readin **** on the internet even though i have stuff to do i just cannot be bothered starting it. Ive also started binge drinking heavily. When i go out i very rarely if ever remember much of the night. I also feel very depresed/inadequte the morning after and i find it very hard to make conversations with people anymore. Its all getting a bit too much to be honest and i cant tell if ive been getting better or worse over the last few months. I definitely think im better sometimes than others but my mind is never at rest/relaxed anymore. I used be "normal" but this is driving me to my limit. Maybe my question isnt if i should get help its how to go about it

Answers:

Your university has counsellors who are professionally trained to deal with what you are describing. Usually binge drinking is a sign that someone is trying to "self medicate" their problems away. Unfortunately, as you have discovered, it is a very short term solution to a long term problem and can exacerbate the symptoms. You are exhibiting some of the classic symptoms of depression. This is easily treated with several of the SSRI class of medications. There is no reason for you to continue this downward spiral. Don't look at this as a weakness....it is a common event as a result of brain chemistry and it is crucial that you take the initiative to get things back to "normal" as soon as possible. best wishes
