Question:
When you've been refered to a Psychologist what's generally the first med they try?
have severe ocd/depression, anxiety nausia paranoia and at times feel like am short of breathe when thinking about things.
Tried zoloft,luvox,effexor and escitalopram.
I realise each case is different but is there generally 1 or 2 medications that people find psychologists tend to dispense.
(both with or without gp recommends, doesnt matter, thats not the really the issue im asking about)
Answers:
I find that most doctors tend to prescribe SSRIs (Zoloft, Lexapro, Prozac, Paxil, etc.) first for anxious & depressive disorders. If the anxiety is severe (e.g. panic attacks) they may also prescribe anti-anxiety medication, such as benzodiazepines (Xanax, Klonopin, etc.).
