Determined to get better, but doctor won't help, what can I do now?!

Question:

Determined to get better, but doctor won't help, what can I do now?

So the other day I had a bit of an experience, long story short I pulled a knife on two guys and then ended up going home with them and making out with one of them so he'd give me free drugs and booze. This came at the same time as two other things. The first is a series of night-terrors, for example, one where I killed a girl by boyfriend used to like, one where some girl from my history class slashed my wrists and one where my house was full of maggots under the floorboards. The other thing was the arrival of some Christian literature which included an article about combatting depression which really made an impact on me. I want to sort myself out, but I cant EVER remember a time when I knew how to think properly, so I don't know what to do to sort myself out. I've been self-harming since I was about 7, along with loads of other stuff that I don't need to tell and you lot probably don't want to hear. But when my GP refferred me to a psychiatrist, he said I was just being a teen

and he couldn't reccomend my refferal for anything else, and from what I can work out, with the NHS that's pretty much the end of the line - my GP can't do anything because i'm only 17, and I'd only get reffered back to the same guy anyway. Where can I go from here?

It was basically the experience with the guys that made me realise I need to sort my **** out

Answers:

Keep going back to your GP he/she will and needs to help you sort yourself. You have made the first and most important desicion by asking and wanting help. Ask you GP to refer you to the CAMHS (child and adolensent mental health service) team in your local area, if you have one. They can access and decide the best way to help you. You really cannot carry on like you have been all of your life and its brilliant you have come to this conclusion. The best way forward might be spending sometime in a unit where you can be assessed and cared for finding out the real you and finding out the person who you used to be.
Something need to be done and sounds like your not getting much help from professional (that is so bad!). Best way is to keep going back to you GP or/and the psychiatrist you saw and finiding out what they can do for you. Below is a website with some phonelines which you can call which might be of some help (not knowing where you live i have included this site i think it covers most places):
http://www.helplines.org.uk/mh_members.h...
ring up and see where this leads you even if it is only because you need to chat to someone.
Sorry i cannot be of anymore help to you.
Best wishes with you future, weldone and good luck
