Answers:

You suffer from general anxiety. It means that pretty much any situation can cause you to become so worried, anxious, stressed out, that you make yourself sick. Especially being in a car for a very long time and perhaps while passing no bathrooms or places that you are familiar with. It can give you a panic attack. You can have trouble breathing. You can sweat, get chills, or both. And most commonly, no matter whether you have eaten anything or not, your stomach is filled with a horrible pain and you cannot stop the need to go to the bathroom. It is very real, very serious, and very painful. Do not let others feel like you are just being silly. It can seem unbearable. However, it is 100% psychological. If you were to calm yourself down, all symptoms would immediately fade away. I know that can seem hard to believe at first since it is so much pain and anxiety. But even you admit that you do it to yourself. There are different ways of dealing with this. If you can manage to stay calm or learn to calm yourself, you will be completely well and able to enjoy trips that have become impossible and terrifying. Try this. Begining today, I want you to meditate. Take as long as you need. Lay down. Relax your body. Push all stress out of your mind. Close your eyes and remove yourself from your room. I want you to think of a place in which you can be totally calm. Some common places are a beach, a spa, getting a massage, in front of a fireplace in a cabin, picnicing next to a waterfall. Pick one. I will demonstrate a beach.
Close your eyes.
The sun is hitting your skin. It feels warm like a blanket. The air is so crisp. It is so clean. You feel well. You feel relaxed. You are laying on the beach. You are on a soft blanket. You can feel the grainy sand on the edge of your toes and if you outstretch your arms, you can drag your fingertips along it. You can hear the waves and the sound is echoing in the movement of your body as you breath slowly and deeply. The waves crash on the shore and recede into themselves. You breath in. Your lungs are filled with fresh air. You breath out and are relaxed. The tide and your breathing remains calm and in synch. In and out. In and out. Relax. You can hear birds. You can hear fish in the water. You still feel the sun and the refreshing wind on you. You are satisfied in every way. You are not hungry. You have eaten. You are not thirsty. You have had a wonderful fruit drink. You can still taste it on your lips. You have all day to sit here and enjoy this scenery. Just listen to the waves.
By now you should feel very at ease. You should feel so relaxed, you could fall asleep. That is great! That is where you want to be. Now, every day, relax and go to that same place. You will begin to reach it faster each time. You can close your eyes and are there within seconds. You remember the wind, the sun, the drink. You remember feeling relaxed. Focus on your favorite aspects. After practice, you will not oly be able to summon the place quicker, but the relaxed state of mind as well. Continue to go to this place whenever you need. Whenever you think of that ride and feel anxiety, close your eyes for a second and breath with the waves. When you are calm and care-free open your eyes. Do this in the car whenever you need to and don't be afraid to bring calming music. Don't be afraid to cheat and make yourself fall asleep. You can miss the whole ride if you want to. You will feel great when you arrive. I used to be unable to go anywhere. It felt horrible. When I learned this technique for anxiety, I taught myself to utilize it and now I can do anything that I have ever done. I am fine riding in the back seat of the van with 15 other people for a 3 hour ride across country. For those of you who don't suffer from anxiety, that may seem like nothing. But it was a very hard thing to accomplish and it means that I get to enjoy alot more with my family now. I hope that this method can help you to overcome your fears the way that it has for me. Actually, I know it will if you give it a chance. And remember to pick a time that is peaceful. A happy time that is not peaceful can turn an excited feeling (like christmas) into even more anxiety. Find one that is right for you and stick with it until you know it well. Good luck and let me know how it goes! : )
