Question:

How do you get a Viet Vet with PTSD the help he needs when he doesn't think he has a problem?

I beleive he's getting alot worse, can't say anything without him flying into a rage. Each day he yells at me that I ruined his life and he'd be better off dead, I have been able to deal with this for the past 25 years because it wasn't this bad but don't know if I can any longer. I realize he's sick and needs more help then I can give him but still I can't just leave him to fend for himself as much as he says he hates me and wants me to leave I know in my heart he wouldn't be OK on his own. At the same time I have been rather sick which the doctor has said is due in part to stress and I am afraid I will have another heart attack if I stay. If I discuss it with his Dr. and he finds out I am afraid of what he might do.

Answers:

You may not be able to help him. He is free to not get help. That leaves you with a decision to make. Perhaps you will be better off without him and his rages.

You might want to talk to spouses who left their husbands. My guess is that many of them were afraid to leave too, but finally got the nerve to do so.

You are not obligated to stay with a person who has decided to destroy his life.
