My ex girlfriend is coming off prozac. What should I expect/look out for?!

Question:

My ex girlfriend is coming off prozac. What should I expect/look out for?

My ex gf ended our relationship 4 mths ago. She was suffering from depression at the time but was sure she wanted to end things as "her feelings changed". I said to her she shouldn't be making such a big decision when she was down but it was what she wanted.

She has a history of depression since a teenager.

We are now back in touch. There is a chance we may get back together. We both clearly still have feelings for each other.

Her Dr has now told her she doesn't need to take the prozac anymore. She is gradually coming off it.

What should I expect from her coming off it? Any experiences of this?

I know there is a chance that at somepoint she may be depressed again. What signs do I look out for??

Answers:

Hiya,
There will be a lot of changes as she comes off the prozac, depending on how long she's been on it.
She is likely to have the occasional "off" day when her moods will change for no apparant reason. The best thing you can do is be patient on these days because she may not realise her moods are changing. Things to look out for are crying for no reason, maybe being off her food, or just being very tired.

Signs to look out for of the depression making a return:
* weight gain/loss or change in appetite
* tiredness despite seemingly having enough rest
* loss of libido
* being unaware of bad moods

All I can really advise is to be patient. If she's really ready to be coming off the prozac you need to support her in whatever way suits her.

I'm currently weaning off antidepressants and I have the odd day when I just cry for no reason - I feel fine, I just have no control over my eyes! All I ask of my fella is that he doesnt take anything personally.

The other biggest piece of advice I can give is keep alcohol to a minimum as this can cause relapses if consumed on a regular basis.
