I wonder why my body does not fall asleep on it's own anymore like it used to?!

Question:

I wonder why my body does not fall asleep on it's own anymore like it used to?

It's like it takes me forever now to fall asleep and it never used to be that way. I blame it on the fact that I had a bad cough a couple of months ago, and there is some work stress, and now I am worried that I have sleeping problems, so I don't know when this is all going to go away.

Answers:

You say it's not falling asleep on its own. Does that mean your taking things to help you fall asleep like sleeping pills or sleep aids? If you are, thats ok.. but you may become dependent on them though, which can screw up your sleep cycle. Your body will think it needs those medications to sleep.. If thats the case, you need to break yourself away from the sleep aids..and in time you'll be able to fall asleep on your own.

If your not taking any sleep aids, and you just can't sleep. I'd think you may have a sleep disorder which your doctor could help you with. Or try this: When your in bed wanted to fall asleep. Try breathing exercises. I do this all the time..and It works for me. Just concentrate on your breathing. Close your eyes. And breath slowly. in through your nose out through your mouth. Long deep breaths. This helps relax your body which helps you get sleepy. Before you know it..you'll be waking up the next morning and you wont even realize you've had trouble falling asleep. But make sure when you do this, you try to clear your mind of all your thoughts of the day.. Just think of something/place relaxing.

Good luck!
