Mental Health Patients???
Every day the newspapers talk of another mental health patient committing violent crimes in civilised society. Is the only way to guarantee an end to this by going back to the lock and key days of asylums???

Before people have a go at me too much for this, I must add that this is not my view. It was merely something I heard mentioned and I wondered how strong this type of feeling was.

Actually let me give you the quick down and dirty on this question.
Newspapers tend to sensationalize crimes committed by a small minority of the individuals living with mental illness.
In fact, and a fact supported by statistics, the vast majority of individuals living with mental illness are the victim of crime, violence and abuse more often than the general population.
When the mentally ill are the victim, little is published. The lack of attention to their plight foster the false impression in that nothing bad happens to them, and they are the ones that do the hurting.
