Metadate 10mg, my 8yr old on it, now talking excessively & more hyper & gets kinda mean.?
My son's neurologist put him on this since 6/19 for ADHD. Babysitter & I noticed is talking excessively, seems like wired. He is also on risperdal for behavior since December & clonidine at night to help him sleep. I didn't give him the metadate yesterday or today & now is calmer. I called the neurologist & she said to give him to pills which would be 20 mg. I just can't stand to medicate him. But he will need something to help him concentrate when he starts 3rd grade. He has tried Adderall, Concerta & Strattera. I might go back to Adderall? He is a sweet kid but just needs to calm down & can't handle being around kids in school & can't adjust to the changes in school. Any suggestions would greatly help. Thanks! The dad doesn't even call him. The dad is just impossible & moved to Arizona last April.

It is a common thought that children given ADHD meds that don't have ADHD will have the opposite effect they should have. Even if that is not right, his med is not working. Discuss this w/ the neurologist but make documentation of the side effects being noted and how often. Difficulty adjusting to change doesn't necessarily = ADHD meds. Maybe you need a second opinion.
