Long and short term memory?!

Long and short term memory?

i know its stupid, but whats the difference?

what does my three month old baby have, only long term. he remembers my face and how to grab things but he wont remember things that are happening now when he is like 4. why is that?

Short term memory is remembering, or forgetting, where you put your car keys, or what you went to the grocery store to purchase or what number the answering machine said to call back that you didn't write down cause you couldn't find a pen.

Long term memory is remembering the names of the kids in your first grade class or a camping trip you took years ago or the details from the first funeral you attended etc..........
