How can you tell when someone has been sexually abused in the past?
I'm worried about a friend of mine...I have my suspicions but I need to know what signs to look for. Help?
Answers:
One HUGE indicator is if a girl purposely dresses or makes herself up to be unattractive (like going punk/emo/goth, etc.), especially if she's very withdrawn and introverted. The rationale is if she makes herself ugly her abuser won't want anything to do with her, and unfortunately it doesn't work 99% of the time. Most women who are sexually abused have a general mistrust (if not outright hatred) of men, will not develop relationships with men, and may be withdrawn or introverted later in life. Many victims of sexual abuse also abuse alcohol or drugs and may be taking antidepressants for long periods of time. If I can think of any more indicators I'll let you know.
