Question:
If we know that the drug use has went up in the past few years why is that and what to do about it?
From 1997 to 2004, there was more than a 150 percent spending hike – from $7.9 billion to $20 billion – for prescription drugs used to treat symptoms of depression, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, anxiety and other psychiatric conditions, according to a study sponsored by the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality. Spending on antipsychotic medications more than tripled, rising from $1.3 billion to $4.1 billion in the period studied; and spending on antidepressants more than doubled, from $5.1 billion to $12.1 billion. During the same period, the number of people who received prescriptions for at least one psychotherapeutic medication rose from 21 million to 32.6 million; the average price per purchase rose from $55.80 to $82.

A lot of it is due to young kids finding legal ways to get a fix and the fact that doctors make more money when they diagnose you with something. There is also the fact that more marriages end in divorce and kids are becoming more depressed because of it. However, no body wants to do anything about it because if they did, they would loose that money which is what they care about moreso than they do about the kids.
