Question:

Step 1 - NA and AA Member Can You Offer Any Help?

I'm working on my first step of the 12 step program and am seeking some experience, strength and hope. My question is:
What keeps you from reconizing your powerlessness and life's unmanagability?
Thanks for any feedback!

Answers:

that was the toughest one for everyone, how can you be powerless? In my case,I chose to fail a random(on purpose)I had the stuff with me to pass, and refused to use it.Some would say it was the drugs that made me do this,Me,I was just tired of the cycle.I made the decision but it was God(something bigger than myself)and the people around me daily that drove me to sobriety.Hence a power greater than ourselves.A lot of people in my rehab didnt believe in God and it was harder to grasp the concept.one of the people in my group whom had helped pull me out of my shell(and didnt believe in God,had a suicide attempt,it was a futile attempt, but still a cry for help, eventually he learned the group was bigger than himself, and that he couldnt influence the thoughts to manipulate the group and learned to accept powerlessness,or at least the meaning of it.Just remember,Serenity is still better than being high, drunk etc,in masking your real feelings.deal with life on its own terms.
