Question:

Oh my gosh, i cant handle this anymore! help :*[?

i have social anxiety.
i try to avoid people in public, but somehow they always get to me.
people always stare and im panaking, and panic attacks come up for no reason, and this phobia is just taking over my life.
i dont want to go to school, and next year is my 8th grade graudation, and i have no idea whats going to happen because im always shaking, and always nervous, even infront of my dad.
i have no idea but this is taking me to a whole different place.
icant settle down in public....
my parents just dont understand. i talked to my mother into therapy, so now we are looking for a therapist, but i hate my life.
i want to be an actress/model when i grow up, but i cant settle down in front of people, BUT its not like i want to be actress/model, its a FEELING, i dont know, but it just getss me to want to be it, and to do something different, but do you think 11 months of theraphy will help me?
this sounds crazy, but each day and night i cry because of anxiety. i want freedom.

Answers:

Horrible isn’t it? Here are some foolproof ways of getting rid of your panic attacks and social anxiety:

1.Breathing properly will control your panic. As soon as you notice the signs of anxiety, check your breathing: breathe in slowly through your nose pushing your tummy out (to the count of 5 or so). Breathe out slowly and for a bit longer (to the count of 7 or so) through your mouth. Do not breathe rapidly or shallowly (in the chest area). This will soon restore the balance of oxygen and you will feel a lot, lot better. Once you start practising, it’ll become second nature.

2. Also I would really advise a course of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy. CBT is proven to be the most effective thing for panic attacks. It takes a bit of work, but if you put the effort in it’s super effective. You can speak to your doctor about doing a course, or you can take a course for free online at: http://www.livinglifetothefull.com/elear... (The course is funded by NHS Scotland and has had great results)

3. I also suggest relaxation exercise tapes (progressive muscular relaxation). They really help if you practise often enough. This site has instructions on how to do it without the tapes (and other useful info): http://www.cci.health.wa.gov.au/resource...

If this is overwhelming, get your Mum to have a help you look through it. Also please remember, it is always in your power to stop your panic attacks! I hope you start feeling better soon. x
