My friend is mad at me?

My best friend is mad at me. We have been friends of many years. Over the years I've attended many of her family's parties, cookouts and holiday get togethers. I have helped her move on numerous occations and have helped out over the years.

She hasn't acknowledge any of my birthdays in the past few years, did not show up for my wedding, or helped me moved and still owes me money.

Today I was invited to attend her family's cookout and I decided that I was feeling anti-social and haven't answered her calls.

I thought I had forgiven her and moved on. Today I am feeling very frustrated and just don't want to bother with anything. Do I have the right to sit back and be a jerk to her?

No, she has owed me money for the past 3 years and we still hang out. This has been an ongoing issue with her not attending events that are important to me.

I never promised I would go to her family's cookout. I thanked her for the invite and would see if I could make it or not. I didn't feel like going and she left a message with attitude about me not showing up.

Sounds like you are both mad at each other. You need to talk to each other, reasonably. Neither one of you should feel obligated to go to each others functions. If you are both really true friends. You will consider each others feelings and not expect so much from each other. You both need to be more understanding. True friends do get mad at each other. However, they are able to work past most things. It requires give and take on both sides. Don't let yourself be used, though. GL
