What can you do for someone who is depressed?!
Question:
What can you do for someone who is depressed?
Answers:
depends on your relationship with them. here are some things:
Let them talk, but not go on about it for hours, because they just get more depressed. Be supportive. Tell some funny stories, eventually maybe they can laugh (some can't tho)
Help them with housework. It's terrible how your home runs down when you are depressed. Dirty dishes everyone. Order in some pizza if you can afford it, or make a casserole or something. Mow the lawn. Expect them to do fewer chores if they live with you.
Get them to go out and have fun with friends. Social support is very important. If the depression is very severe, maybe not.
If they are in the hospital, or quite seriously depressed, get them some flowers (in a plastic vase) and a nice get well soon card. I never get flowers or a card when I am in the mental hospital, but everyone in the 'regular' hospital does.
A vacation does wonders.
If a spouse or kid or parent: help them get to appointments, help them remember to take their meds, help them figure out how to deal with side effects like dizziness or sleeping too much.
