Depression Disability?!

Question:

Depression Disability?

I have suffered depression for 7 years, off (mild) and on (severe). Right now I am in a severe stage coupled with extreme anxiety and social phobias and OCD. I have a psychiatrist who said I am borderline schizo (not true). I have schizo meds which help w/ my OCD (fear of dying, choking).

I have a job. I am not going back to work because I can not do my job at this point. I have not quit, but an seriously thinking about it. I do need the insurance to see psychiatrist and meds.
I need the money too for bills, but at this point, I can't go back to work. It has been 2 months on Short term disability from work.

Should I quit my job and try for Soc Sec Disability or keep my job and stay on short term? I need to find a new doctor and find better meds/way of coping. What do I tell my job? What do I do?

Answers:

All I know is not quit your job. Going to work helps you stand on your feet and life will have purpose. Staying at home means that there will be no difference between day or night, summer or winter,... Hang on to your job. If you need to explain it to your supervisor, you can ask your doctor to write a letter and hand it to your supervisor while you explain your problem the way that he/she can understand it and have sympathy (I am not talking about feeling sorry) to know how keeping this job is important for your health and at the same time knows that there are times that you need to get off.
Good luck
