My doctor gave me Zoloft?!

Question:

My doctor gave me Zoloft?

and I am supposed to start taking it today but I am really scared it will give me bad side effects, what should I do? I am really scared and nervous

Answers:

There must be a good reason your doctor gave you Zoloft, depression, anxiety or something. If this disorder is really getting you down, whatever side effects you may experience will be outweighed by the benefits. I have taken Zoloft before. For the first few days, I felt a little drowsy and fuzzy-headed, but those side effects disappeared. After a while the only real side effect was weight gain, which you should watch out for. Go ahead, give it a try. Most of the side effects never occur. I mean, if you ever read the side effects of the pill, no one would take birth control for fear of dying of an immediate stroke. If you have bad side effects, tell you doctor and stop taking it. If it were really, really dangerous, no one would prescribe/take it. Hopefully you are getting another type of treatment along with the drug so you won't have to stay on it for a very long time. I was able to stop taking Zoloft after a year because I learned how to deal with my anxiety properly. Go ahead and take it. Hopefully it's a low dose (50 mg or less). You'll be fine, maybe just feel a little weird for a couple days. In the long run, hopefully you won't even notice anything other than your feeling better.
