I'm always putting myself down "In my own head" eg; Im stupid, Im usel!

Question:

I'm always putting myself down "In my own head" eg; Im stupid, Im useless, Im worthless. What can I do?

Answers:

This is a VERY interesting question. It is particularly interesting because I have experienced the same issue. I convinced myself that I was "worthless". In retrospect it didn't make a lot of sense because I had been very successful in life prior to this event. Mine was triggered by what I saw as the ultimate rejection....I was fired from my long term job. Rejection is man's greatest fear (even ranking higher than death). Out of desperation I took a job way below my previous employment in salary and position. For the first few months I moped through the days, criticizing myself for my "failure" and getting more and more morose. Things got so bad that I finally went to my doctor and she sent me to a psychiatrist. I unloaded on him and he explained that my thoughts were typical for someone who was severely depressed. He started me on an SSRI (Prozac). He also told me that it would take a month or more for me to start feeling better. I really didn't think I could feel any difference but the one thing that I noticed was that I started liking this job and wasn't moping around feeling worthless anymore. Within six months I was promoted to a management position and a year later I became Operations Manager. When I look back I can't believe how low I had gotten and am very thankful that i went for help. I could not have done it on my own. I am a better person today...I am more understanding of others, and I treat employees fairly and with respect. I also treat myself fairly and with respect and that is the most important thing. Best wishes to you.......you are not stupid or useless and you can prove it to yourself..........
