Question:

I had very little sleep last week & last weekend,I couldn't control my emotions.Is sleep deprivation to blame?

Specifically, my eyes keep welling up with tears, I'm not thinking rationally, I'm feeling very paranoid and I had a couple of minor panic attacks. Could this be sleep deprivation or something else? I've sleep better the last few nights and feel a bit less emotional. I've also been using a new contraceptive pill for the last 3 months, so maybe this is a factor?

I didn't sleep much because of work stress, stress in my personal life & insecurities. Also, I had consumed alcohol some nights last week and so didn't get "real" sleep, as I woke up in the middle of the night with dehydration and the next days hangover made me quite paranoid. God, I sound like a bit of a mess when I'm writing all of this down!

Sleep is a very important part of life and going without sleep for extended periods of time can cause serious damage to your overall health. You don't mention why you didn't sleep and so I am assuming that it was a one off but if it isn't then talk to your doctor as even driving becomes risky!!
Anyway, yes, sleep deprivation can cause all of what you have outlined and more. Check the package on your contraceptive pills or look on the web site for side effects. Don't ignore the problem though, you have to sleep.
