Could I be Bipolar?!

Question:

Could I be Bipolar?

I do not get really manic, but my moods are polar. I am either in a good mood, or really depressed, I have no middle ground. I am seeing a therapist, but I do not know if he is seeing this. I have only seen him twice. Would it be weird if I brought up that I was concerned that I was bipolar?

Answers:

It would not be weird for you to bring this up at all. This is YOUR health he is trying to help you with--it is quite natural for you to have fears and expectations, and to discuss all of these with your therapist.

I have a bi-polar ex-sister-in-law. Although she divorced my brother years ago, and he now has a new fiance, she still comes to all family get-togethers. The ex not only has mood swings, but beliefs that can not be considered "normal". Such as she honestly believes that all electrical wiring in a house makes a field that tries to suck her personality right out of her. (AND it is targetted specifically to HER). Also she believes that she has been empowered (not by God but by some other supreme being) with the ability to "read" a person's soul with her hands and mind, and to help them "heal" with massage and talking out their problems--as in, as they talk, she absorbs the problems and cures them in her own super-charged body.

And I know that her therapist considers her to be doing quite well at controlling her own bi-polar condition???!!!! So, my point is, maybe you aren't exactly bi-polar, but could have the beginnings of a different condition.
