Would this be considered a disorder?!

Question:

Would this be considered a disorder?

Is it considered a disorder if someone is unable to fall in love with someone they aren't physically attracted to and value appearance above everything else in a relationshp?

What disorder would that be classified as?

Answers:

It's not a disorder. Nor is it shallowness as one person has stated.

Human beings find other people attractive to the eye. It is that attractiveness that stimulates the hormones and generally leads us to talk with them and get to know them. This is just a fact of life.

That hormonal stimulation, that "rush" of excitement and feeling attracted is what keeps us interested long enough to find out if the person is somebody we want to know further. Even the most beautiful girl, or handsome guy, if a total airheaded jerk, is not likely to keep anybody's interest for long.

Valuing appearance above all else in a relationship, that I would put down to lack of experience and maturity. When you and your some day spouse are 80 years old, appearance won't matter to you half as much as a warm smile, a kind word, and a soft caress.
