Mental health question: is this abuse?!

Question:

Mental health question: is this abuse?

When I was very young, my mother got sick and ended up getting hospitalized for depression. For as long as I can remember, it seems as if she uses her illness to manipulate. For instance, the littlest thing can get her upset, where she will retreat to her room and sleep. If I argue with her about something, she withdraws to her room, sleeps, and is not expected to do anything around the house. My mother already only works one day a week & doesn't have many responsibilities, but it is like she expects other people in the house to do everything because she is "fragile." This is hard to explain in just one paragraph, but for years this has weighed heavily on me. I think the rest of my family is in denial, but my boyfriend agrees with me. I am starting to think this is some form of emotional abuse, because she manipulates the whole family by playing the victim and being viewed as "fragile." I know this may sound harsh, but you really have to know the situation. Is this abuse?

Answers:

It sounds like emotional abuse, I am not an expert but that is what it sounds like.
