Faking MPD illegal?!

Question:

Faking MPD illegal?

Ok, cant put all the details up here. Here are some facts.
-She admitted to faking MPD, that it was pre-meditated.
-she spent 6 days in the mental hospital faking the disorder
-I took her to 3 doctors before I had her parents (from a different state come pick her up, take her back and have her submitted)
-she told her parents she did it in an attempt to see if I would always stand by her
-she had a lawsuit against someone who hit her with a car, and she was using my ties to the mental health community to build a case (ironically emotional distress)
-I am 100% disabled with bipolar and war/combat PTSD, she saw me as an easy target. She also knew it wasnt healthy to play the games she did, but she didnt care.
-I dont believe anything anyone says anymore. I am completely jaded. I just cant trust a thing anymore. This goes beyond someone cheating on you. Im sure she did that too. She took her lie all the way to the hospital, you know lies, you keep digging deeper and deeper.

Answers:

I'm sorry this happened to you. Some people are liars and like to take advantage of those who appear to be less powerful than themselves.

However, it's not illegal to fake a mental disorder, including MPD (which has actually been replaced by dissociative identity disorder - DID - in the current DSM). At the very most, you could file a suit against her to recover damages for intentional infliction of emotional distress, but that cause of action is not accepted in many states, sometimes requires actual physical harm in addition to the emotional harm in many states where it is allowed, and is all-together difficult to prove, especially if there were pre-existing problems (such as bipolar and PTSD).

I'm sorry that there aren't many options for dealing with this situation. Hopefully you'll be able to be strong enough to keep this woman out of your life.
