Psychiatric for free?!

Question:

Psychiatric for free?

I have some mental probs, to where I suffer from social phobia's, depression, anxiety & more. I believe I may be bipolar since my mood changes constantly for no reason, constantly. It's affecting my personal & work life severely, and have attempted suicide in the past & have thoughts of it again, and many times of going to bed wishing I would just die in my sleep. I know I need some badly. I've only ever been to a psychiatrist one time, and it did not help. Was also on antidepressants for a while and did not help. I can not afford to pay for help, and have no insurance. Theres only one place I know of in my area (St. Louis, MO) for mental health, and thats Chestnut health systems, however they work on a sliding scale & they want to much since I am singe & make $1,000 month. I can't afford to pay anything as everything I make goes to bills. I owe them money as is from the one time before, so they're out of the question. Any ideas where I can get help & for free?

Answers:

I don't know where you can get longterm help for free but I strongly recommend that you call the suicide hotline when things are really bad and you're having those thoughts. They will stay on the phone with you for hours if you need them to, just talking.

Also if your moods are changing constantly, it's not bipolar. The phases of bipolar disorder are a bit slower than that.

The number for the hotline is:
1-800-SUICIDE or 1-800-784-2433

You might also try just walking into the clinic and being honest with them. Tell them that all of your money goes to bills and you can't afford the treatment but you're scared for your safety if you don't have it. Ask if there is any other way you can have treatment.
