Question:

What "drugs" did they use in ancient rome and Greece to treat depression?

I heard opium was used to treat depression and other ailments does anyone have any insight to this and can cite it? I looked on wikipedia but it dosn't say much about the treatment of depression through opium.

Answers:

I don't know about physician-"prescribed" drug treatment, but they had wines back then too so I bet some people self-medicated with alchohol the same as some do nowadays.
