How to get husband to get checked for Bipolar?!

Question:

How to get husband to get checked for Bipolar?

Answers:

If he has been relatively normal up until now (I think you are older? Life after 66?) without mood swings, and now he is having them, that is probably not bipolar. Bipolar disorder is a genetic disorder. You could go with him to his general doctor's appointment and ask him to be screened for depression/bipolar. It could be early dementia too, that causes mood swings. Or a head injury that healed poorly. I hope it goes well for you. Guys are always hard to get to the doctor & I hope you succeed!! Remember, even general practitioners see depression & bipolar ALL THE TIME because those patients have to get regular checkups in addition to the psychiatrist, so the docs don't think anything about it. They just make sure they don't treat a disease in such a way as to make the psychiatric problem worse. Kinda like if a person has diabetes.

Good luck to you! You may have to just nag him. And you can tell him that married men live 8 years longer than single or divorced men, because their wives nag them to go to the doctor.
