Interested in beginning yoga and meditation...?

I am going through a really stressful time in my life right now and had yoga and meditation recommended to me. I was told that it would help release stress, relax my body and mind, and help with a bunch of different issues overall. I have read a book about mediation and really am interested. I'm not in a postition to start taking classes right now so what would be a good way to start learning and practicing these ideas? Any books, DVD's or other suggestions would be much appreciated.

I've been doing yoga for about 6 years now, and, seriously, it's the best.

There are a few good yoga dvds out there. I think Yoga for Dummies is fairly good. Yoga.com ( http://www.yoga.com ) is another good resource.
Once you learn the proper movements, you can always record yoga programs from your television. I record them now and then (Namaste) to mix up my routine.

The MOST important thing when choosing a dvd is to get one that explains and demonstrates the postures very clearly. If you're not doing them correctly, you could get hurt. I know you say you're not in the position to take classes, but it would be beneficial to go to one or two if possible. A good instructor will correct your mistakes and make sure you're not getting hurt.

As for meditation, there are tons of good books out there. I'm going to recommend the "Dummies" books again because they give you a good overview of the different techniques. Try them out, and when you find one you like get a book more specific to that technique. You don't really need a book for meditation though. You just need to sit quietly and let go of thoughts as they come into your head. At first you will have TONS of thoughts, but as you practice, you'll get better at clearing your mind.
