How long does it take people to get their memory back after they've been in a coma?

my best friend was in a hockey game and he got rammed by 2 other players, was knocked out cold, broke 4 ribs, had a concussion and has been asleep for the past 3 days...he just woke up this morning and dosen't remember anything but his family.

Actually Dan H, I would guess every sentence you wrote is an assumption, except hopefully not the last one. Full disclosure might better include why you feel so justified coming to a category you don't frequent and being hostile.

Jennifer, in my career as a neurologist, most young men I saw with the degree of trauma you describe had a lot of memory back in a week or less, though not for a period of time around the injury, which can be a permanent loss. Of course it can take a lot longer.
