How do you truly let go of the past and just forgive and move on?!

Question:

How do you truly let go of the past and just forgive and move on?

I find myself constantly dwelling on the past and remembering all the bad things ever said or done to me. It is ruining me but I can't seem to help it. I alternately beat myself up over it and get really angry at others. I know in my mind I must forgive, but it must come from the heart. How do you do that? I just can't let anything go and "get over it".

Answers:

The best method That I use and tell others with depression problems is to realize it is over and to realize that dwelling on the past will not change it. You cannot change the past. However you must realize that by dwelling on the past you are ceasing to live and time is passing you by.

It is important to remember the past but only to the extent to which you use the knowledge you have gained to help better your experiences in the future.

If you are feeling depressed the number one thing you can do is get up and do something you truly enjoy. This may seem hard because you feel tired and uninterested but it really helps.

By the way you are describing it sounds like someone did something that caused you unnecessary pain and or suffering. Here's something to consider...

Forgiving is only neccesary to be a good samaritan, you do not have to forgive. Instead it may seem easier to realize that people are human and are prone to making stupid and unwise decissions. It might even help to just laugh at the decissions people make that may bring unwanted feelings towards you. Many people say "forgive and Forget", but it is not necessary to forgive in order to forget.

More Often than not "Time Mends erverything"

These things do not work at first but if you start trying to use them you will notice that your periods of sadness after 'traumatic' events will become shorter and you will begin to look forward to a bright and sunny tomorow, even if your inner weather man is predicting disdainful weather, you may actually begin to look forward to the next challenge in life. Never be afraid to look forward to tomorow.

If you like what you read here and would like some other methods, as I have have so many more that work just as well feel free to e-mail me and I would be happy to share them with you.

I hope I helped
