When visiting a psychologist for the first time?!

Question:

When visiting a psychologist for the first time?

I'm planning on seeing a psychologist to get some good, professional advice on how to deal with my everyday problems and issues. Is it recommended that before I go, I list all the things that are bothering me then show it to the psychologist during my session? Or will he most likely ask me to do it. To those who have seen psychologists, have you listed your issues on a sheet a paper then go to your appointment with that list? Let me know, thanks!

Answers:

The initial visit to a therapist is called an "intake" which can vary from one to two hours.
During that time he/she will ask a lot of questions about whats bothering you ...how you feel...your lifestyle and brief family history. The therapist will take notes while you are talking (very normal) to be able to keep track of your situation and how to proceed in the sessions to come.
Bring a list if you think you want to let him/her know something specific about you.
But over all the first visit is just for the therapist to know what you will need to talk about in future visits.
