Where in the uk can i go to sort things out in my mind with help and get away fr!

Question:

Where in the uk can i go to sort things out in my mind with help and get away from everything?

I haven't been out the house very much in the las ten years, and recently have hit an all time low, i need to get away somewhere where i can think and try and work out what i am going to do, and to try and gain some feelings of self worth and confidence. I have looked at retreats but they r mainly religion based and dont seem to offer what i need. Also money is an issue. Infact i'm not even sure what i need. I am feeling suicidal and deeply depressed and there is no point in going back to the doctors as the last psychiatrist i seen said i don't have depression, jut OCD and the fact i barely go out the house, have no friends, no life, no relationships etc is normal for someone who is obese, its not because i am depressed. I am angry and lonely and need to get away to somwhere peaceful, i also don't really want to be on my own, i'd like to go somewhere i can feel part in something. This is pobably a hopeless request but any suggestions????

hi yeah the psychiatrist knows what my life is like, but as to keep myself from going totally crazy i from staring at four walls and come on the internet he seems to think i don't have depression, and as i haven't tried to commit suicide for a long time or cut myself this all seems to point to having no depression!!!!! Sometimes it feels like the only way to get noticed by the medical profession is to do something drastic, even then half the time they don't take u seriously!!!!!

Hi there.......

I am in the same boat of depression. when i read your question seeking some place to sort things out in your mind, it seemed like it was me who asked that. Since that is how i feel too and was looking for such a place myself.

I live in the UK as well (London) and im actually awake at this time (4am) because i am depressed. Anyhow, i have some things to suggest, but the thing is, i garuntee that they will improve your situation. I said improve, not cure depression, but i can try and give you an outlook on what you can do, as i have a feeling your a similar wave lenght to me.

Firstly, you are what you eat. Most of the foods we eat today, are trash. They are partly responsible for how we feel today. This is not me calling anyone fat or skinny or whatever. I am not even talking about that. I am only talking about health. If you eat healthy, and natural, you will improve your mental level so drastically that you might feel cured on its own!! (Tho you might still get spells of depression because of other factors which i will come to).
So start changing your food intake as a first step. This should use up some time of yours and prevent negative thinking like self worthlessness as you are doing something that will improve how you feel inside, let alone how you look (you will look happy, healthy). Look at what your eating, is it limited to only a few things? Are they mostly cooked foods? Mostly processed foods? most likely your answer to this is yes. As a first step, try to eat an apple before every meal. This will reduce your appetite for the meal ahead, and also give you SOME nutritents you need, but you need more on this. You need to eat as many types of fruit and vegtables as possible. But start slowly. Look up ways to eat healthy online, research on it, read in the library (a big library is better since it gives you this peaceful feeling sometimes).

Whatever age you are, most people havent "discovered" themselves. Look at adopting different hobbies, even at unusual things (who knows what might spark your interest). This may sound very boring at first, but by having a couple of hobbies you love, you can join clubs related to those hobbies, and meet likeminded people, thus another way of making new friends. (yes i know its very hard to think of this as a way out sometimes, but you do all this taking your time, and knowing that you are improving day by day)

Now to target that depression directly. Again, this may sound unusual, but stick with me. Have you heard of Hypnosis? Im sure you have. Look up this site called http://www.deeptrancenow.com/. They sell CDs on hypnosis, but also provide valuable information on it. I am not saying buy their CD's, but just reccomending buying a Hypnosis recording which focuses on problems you wish to resolve (like improving self esteem, being positive, changing belief systems etc).
Hypnosis is a very under-rated and powerful tool that can be used to alter anything you choose to. Keep an open mind, and you will be amazed. I am a witness to this myself, that is why i reccomend it.
This will also help you put a pause on everything in life for the time, and just breath, help you wonder , live the present rather than worry about anything else.

And no, being obese should not be a reason you shouldnt be in a relationship. Do not listen to the doctors in cases that concern mental health. This is still widely misunderstood by most doctors. I went to 5 different UK doctors, trying to get a reccomendation to a phcycrtrist but they all said i am not depressed. One of them even started telling me his own story, saying his life was harder than mine!!! so that i shouldnt be depressed!!! I felt like punching him there and then!!

I know religous retreats might seem not what your looking for. But is it? Yes, these days, everyday we here religous extreamists doing crazy stuff. However, the core principals in most religions is the same, which in my opinion, is beneficial to all humans, even tho they may not agree. These are things like staying honest, not stealing, respecting elders, being fair to others etc.
If this still does not sound right to you. I got another idea.

Change your surroundings. Is the house/flat you live in messy? Do you have any vibrant colours in at least one room? I suggest, make 1 room where you keep the room 100% clean, which has bright lighting and a big window. This is your emergency resort. I know it can sound a little weird, but trust me, its not. This room, you go to, once a day or more if you need to, to meditate. Meditation is not religious, altho it is usedin some religions to promote well being. Scientific research suggest people who meditate regularly appear 10 years younger than other people their age. They are also generally happy, since they are healthy as well.

If you want to talk more on the above or anything else, please do contact me. There is soo much more information i wanted to add but i included what i thought was most important. I hope you manage to find peace. Take care, and be positive, kill negative thoughts, even if they seem factual and real. Being in a bad phsiological state will not help you deal with a bad situation. So being in a positive state will be the best way to deal with a bad situation.

best of luck,

Sel
