Do you think that a person who has been traumatized by being forced to do someth!

Question:

Do you think that a person who has been traumatized by being forced to do something they didn't want to could

actually do similar acts willingly to see if they like them and not relive the situation, because it is their own will/desire? Could this be a bad decision? The person in ? has gone through the denial, anger, feelings of guilt, etc. They have forgiven. They just want to make their own decisions. Or is there some reason they would do this that is a sub-concious symptom of PTSD, and they just don't realise it? Thank you.

Like maybe subconsciously they are punishing themselves?

Sir, I do appreciate your answer. However, it is wrong. The person in ? had an alcoholic and abusive biological father, a mentally ill mother, was taken away from their siblings at age2, sexually molested by a female, physically, mentally and sexually abused by their spouse (they raped them and made them have sex w/ someone else and threatened to kill the few people who offered help if they left), among other things. People now look at them like they are scared to death of them or there's nothing wrong with them. They are doing better. However, while they do want to "experiment", they want to STAY better. As I said I do appreciate the answer. However, it is NOT just an illness for vet's. Thankyou, anyway.

The thing with the spouse went on for years. The family they told about it said you're married and did nothing. They blame themselves also because they did not leave and they were a victim to fear and bad judgement. Now people say they let it happen. Which they feel is true. So they can't even trust their own judgement. They asked me about it. I don't know what to say. Please help.

Answers:

I think that a soldier who has been forced and conditioned to kill and destroy in a war can consciously act out killing others and destroying in peacetime as a part of PTSD. This is a bad decision but there is a good debate as to whether any act committed as a result of war is or is not a bad decision. War, to most, is a bad decision. Training for war and acts of war can destroy a persons sense of right and wrong whether this sense is intrinsic or acquired.

I do not suffer from PTSD but have known many who do. The disorder PTSD acquired by veterans of war is due in large part to being conditioned to do acts that are considered unacceptable to most people. The therapy for this should, in my estimation, include being reconditioned in the acceptable norms of right and wrong to achieve a sincere realization that what they have undergone and done was wrong. As long as war is held to be an honorable pursuit of any state this won't happen.

Good luck in dealing with PTSD, good health, peace and love!

Edit: I saw PTSD and assumed the question was about veterans. I realize now it may be about being raped or something since your avatar is female. Just substitute "non-consensual sex" wherever "war' appears above and see if this applies.

2nd Edit, after your comment above:
My impression of this person according to your description of her/him is that this individual has probably never experienced parental or conjugal love. Instead her/his relation has always been one of fear and domination. How could a person therefor be expected to make any decision other than to repeat the mistakes made in raising her/him and as a wife/husband. I'm not sure what to advise except to pursue a relationship that doesn't repeat the sad mistakes enumerated above.

I did answer another question of yours, that about a mental problem and its relation to your pregnancy. In my answer I stated some of my experiences with conjugal love in being a happily married husband looking forward to the birth of his very welcome children. I suggest you look at this answer and take it as a statement about a happy relationship.

Good luck in your future relations , good health, peace and love!
