Gaps?? or excuses in the mental health care system?!

Question:

Gaps?? or excuses in the mental health care system?

Why does the mental health care profession seem to have carte blanche' whenever they miserably screw up a high profile case? For example, the Virginia Tech shooter was released from the psych ward after only 2 days because the shooter himself told his so called "doctors" that the photographs, videotapes of himself holding guns to his head ad knives to his neck as well as writings about death and destruction were satire! SATIRE????????????????????
The APA has always admitted that serious gaps exist within the system. If you ask me, there are no "gaps" just LAME excuses for BAD QUACK doctors. It happens far too often for it to be just a fluke or the occassional incompetent moron who is in the wrong job with the responsibility of making important decisions.
It is long overdue that the AMA throw the APA out of the medical profession and start acting responsibly for a change!!!!

Answers:

I sure know about "BAD QUACK doctors". Have you ever seen the movie "Primal Fear" with Richard Gere? Trying to decide whether a criminal is insane or was insane @ the time they committed a terrible crime is tedious business. Insurance companies own the health care industry. All they care about is the money, not the people they insure. This leads to shorter hospital stays when the person really needs to stay longer or being denied a life-saving proceedure because insurance won't pay for it or the company won't accept insurance. The health-care industry started falling apart in the 1980's with the HMO's and my nurse mother said it will have to hit bottom before it gets better. I hope she is wrong.
